Magic beaten by Thunderbirds

The Adelaide Thunderbirds have kept a firm hold on top spot in the trans-Tasman netball championships following a 45-33 win over the Waikato Bay of Plenty Magic in Adelaide last night.

The Magic jumped out to a 9-2 lead before the homeside clawed their way back into the game and went ahead 22-20 at half time.

Adelaide's defensive pressure coupled with quick mid-court movement proved too strong for the Magic in the third term and they drew away for a 12 goal victory which keeps them 2 points clear at the top of the standings, while the Magic are 4th, just ahead of the Southern Steel.

The Steel beat the New South Wales Swifts 60-55 in Invercargil, with the Steel's new star shooter, the Jamaican Jhaniele Fowler scoring all but 1 of the homesides goals.

However it wasn't just the shooting that was the difference as the Steel defence kept the Swifts at bay.
