The New Zealand men's hockey team begin their final series before the World Hockey League when they take on Korea in the first Test in Auckland this afternoon.

The Black Sticks will play six matches against the Koreans as part of the preparation for the tournament in the Netherlands next month.

A 23-man squad gathered in Auckland yesterday, featuring a mix of new and experienced players.

The coach, Colin Batch, says he's pleased with the way the older players have supported the newcomers, despite the competition for places in the 18-man squad.

Colin Batch says Korea are known for playing a fast style and is expecting an exciting series between the two sides.
