A broken rib has forced the Canterbury all-rounder Andrew Ellis to pull out of the New Zealand cricket squad for the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy.

The 31-year-old suffered the injury while training in Christchurch in preparation for both the Champions Trophy and a three-match one day international series against England.

A replacement is yet to be named for the tournament which starts on June the 9th for the Black Caps with an opening match against Sri Lanka in Cardiff, followed by games against Australia in Birmingham and against England in Cardiff.

The one day players leave for the UK next Tuesday and will prepare with two warm-up matches in Northampton.
