The Chiefs have scrapped their way to another win in the Super Rugby competition, beating the Hurricanes 17-12 in an ugly match in Wellington.
In front of the All Black selectors the two sides managed to produce a contender for worst game of the season.
The Chiefs led 12-9 at the break and Tanerau Latimer scored the only try of the match in the second half as the visitors held on for the win to retain top spot in the New Zealand conference.
The loss all but ends hopes of making the play-offs for the Hurricanes, who controlled much of the possession and territory but looked to be slightly off the pace and were consistently knocked back around the fringes of the ruck by the defenders.
Elsewhere South Africans the Sharks beat the Western Force 23-13 in Perth, while the Melbourne Rebels edged the Stormers 30-21 at home to post their first-ever victory against a South African side.
