The New Zealand triathlete Terenzo Bozzone has won a half Ironman event in Florida.

The former world champion, has put his injuries behind him by finishing in three hours, 45 minutes and 51 seconds, winning by more than a minute.

The 28-year-old won in his first race back following an accident after a driver opened a car door into his path while riding.

Bozzone took three weeks off before Ironman New Zealand in early March, where he pulled out after feeling dizzy and unwell.

He was later diagnosed with a delayed concussion as a result of the initial bike crash and was forced to take a complete break for more than a month, returning to race in Florida after five weeks training.

Fellow Auckland athlete Callum Millward finished eighth while another Aucklander, Jo Lawn, finished third in the women's race.
