The start of the A-League football season has been pushed back further with the announcement next season's grand final will be held on May 4th, the latest-ever finish to the season.

The chief executive of Football Federation Australia announced the draw in Sydney today with the biggest change being an end date that further incurs on the AFL and NRL's respective fixture lists.

The latest change brings the code more into line with European football seasons.

The season will kick off on October the 11th with Sydney FC hosting the Newcastle Jets, while the Wellington Phoenix will host the Brisbane Roar on the Sunday.

The code will maintain its presence over the festive season, with 16 matches to be held over 18 days, including Boxing Day and New Year's Eve.
