Sunday strolls for Serena and Federer

10:02 am on 27 May 2013

Tennis greats Serena Williams and Roger Federer both enjoyed Sunday afternoon strolls at Roland Garros as they seized the opportunity to gain head starts over their French Open rivals in ruthless fashion.

The American Williams dropped just one game as she destroyed Georgian Anna Tatishvili in an ominous 51-minute display, while Federer barely raised a sweat in cool, overcast conditions as the Swiss disposed of grand slam debutant Pablo Carreno-Busta of Spain, also in straight sets.

Serena Williams' sister Venus was bounced out in the first round, losing an epic three-setter to Poland's Ursula Radwanska - her earliest French Open defeat in 12 years.

Frenchman Gilles Simon lost the opening two sets to Lleyton Hewitt before recovering to beat the veteran Australian in five, while there were also opening wins for former French Open champion Ana Ivanovic, Auckland champion David Ferrer, Sam Querrey, Kevin Anderson, and Milos Raonic.
