Wrestling has been given another lifeline by the International Olympic Committee after it along with squash and baseball/softball were named for possible inclusion as an additional sport on the Olympic programme for the 2020 Olympic Games.

Earlier this year wrestling was dropped by the IOC, while baseball and softball were dropped after the Beijing Olympics.

The IOC selected the three sports by secret ballot from a shortlist of eight that also included karate, roller sports, sport climbing, wakeboarding and wushu.

The full IOC membership will vote later this year on which of the three sports to add to the 2020 Games in addition to the 25 core sports - plus golf and rugby sevens - proposed earlier this year.
