The New Zealand Football board member Paula Kearns has found herself involved in the latest gaffe by Sepp Blatter, the head of football's world governing body.

Kearns was among four candidates to become FIFA's first permanent female executive committee member, with an appointment to be made at its Congress in Mauritius this weekend.

However Kearns has now withdrawn her candidancy, after realising she didn't have the votes required.

Speaking to the Asian Football Confederation Blatter described Australian candidate Moya Dodd as a strong candidate, helped by being good looking.

However Kearns doesn't believe Blatter's latest comments are sexist, saying he was simply paying Dodd a compliment and hopes he might do the same to her one day.

Blatter has previously urged women footballers to wear skimpier kits to increase the popularity of the women's game.
