Inappropriate lift comments lead to Swimming Australia president resigning

Inappropriate comments in a lift have led to the president of Swimming Australia Barclay Nettlefold stepping down from the role.

Nettlefold was accused of making an inappropriate remark towards a female staff member in a lift at the national swimming titles in Adelaide last month.

An independent investigation was launched when another staff member came forward with a similar complaint.

Nettlefold says he made some comments in jest to colleagues but concedes they were not consistent with the standards expected.

Nettlefold, who was only elected to the role in October, had been at the forefront of a restructure of Swimming Australia prompted by two inquiries after Australia's disappointing performance in the London Olympic pool.
