Swimming Australia loses major sponsor

Still reeling from their latest scandal, Swimming Australia (SA) has been rocked by major sponsor Energy Australia cutting ties just 12 months into a lucrative five-year deal.

News that the sponsorship - believed to be worth at least $2 million a year - had been torn up came only days after president Barclay Nettlefold resigned amid claims of inappropriate behaviour.

The deal reportedly made up almost half of SA's annual revenue for corporate sponsorship.

It is another body blow to SA, which is trying to rebuild after Australia's disappointing London Olympic performance.

The London Games was the first time Australia failed to win an individual Olympic gold medal in the pool since the 1976 Montreal Olympics.

SA dropped their investigation into Nettlefold after he admitted to making inappropriate comments and resigned on Sunday.
