The Indian cricketers have beaten South Africa by 26 runs in the opening match of the Champions Trophy 50-over tournament in Cardiff.

Shikhar Dhawan struck his maiden one-day international century, scoring 114 as India made 331 for 7.

The gamble to open with Colin Ingram backfired when he was caught in the slips for six and despite Ryan McLaren hammering 71 not out, the Proteas were bowled out for 305.

Pakistan play the West Indies at The Oval tonight.
