There'll be a monster gallery following the favourites for the opening two rounds of this week's US Open golf championship.

The top three players in the world rankings, who're also the three pre-tournament favourites Tiger Woods, Rory McIlroy and the Masters champion Adam Scott, have been grouped together for the first two rounds at the Merion course in Pennsylvania.

There are two New Zealanders in the field of 156, the 2005 champion Michael Campbell, who's been drawn with two American journeymen, and qualifier Steven Alker, who tees off late in Friday morning's opening round, alongside Australians Mathew Goggin and Allistair Presnell.
