Hansen won't change to help Ranger

The All Blacks coach Steve Hansen says they're well aware of Blues utility Rene Ranger's future plans and they'll take no part in changing them.

It has been reported that Ranger did try to get out of his contract with French club Montpellier after being selected for New Zealand again, but the versatile back would have to pay half of his million dollar contract to do so.

Hansen says they've picked Ranger for the French series because he's in form and would also be available for the Rugby Championship.

Hansen says what Ranger has decided to do in the future won't have a bearing on how they intend to use him now.

The coach says Ranger knows what his role is and obviously he'd like to start and at some stage he probably will, but it's all about the team first and individual second so at the moment his role is to come off the bench.

Hansen's also indicated it's unlikely anyone was going to compensate Montpellier to make sure Ranger stays in New Zealand.
