Clarke, Warner train with Australia

The Australian cricket captain Michael Clarke and suspended batsman David Warner both trained with the side at The Oval on Friday.

Clarke hasn't trained since first arriving in the UK and hasn't played a match on tour as he fights to overcome his latest back injury.

He's still expected to miss Monday's final Champions Trophy pool match against Sri Lanka in London, although the sight of him back in practice is welcome news to an Australian side in crisis less than a month out from the Ashes.

The skipper trained separately to team-mates with the Australian physiotherapist, completing some light running and also performing some one-on-one batting drills, getting his body comfortable again with the mechanics of swinging the bat.

Warner is banned from playing until the first Ashes test, but trained in the nets as he fights to win back the trust and respect of those around him.

Australia's final Champions Trophy pool match could be a dead rubber with them knocked out of the tournament if England beat New Zealand on Sunday in Cardiff.

As if Warner hadn't dented Australia's bid to defend their title enough by punching rival Joe Root in the face, Sri Lanka have blown group A open by causing a major boilover against England, meaning virtually Australia's only chance of making the semi-finals is for New Zealand to deliver a knock-out blow to England.

A Black Caps win over England would mean Australia could secure a semi-final berth by beating Sri Lanka on Monday at The Oval.
