Five time US Open runner-up heads leaderboard going into final round

The five time runner up American Phil Mickelson will go into the final round of the US Open in Pensylvania wtih a one shot lead and the only player under par.

Mickelson is at one under for the tournament at the Merion course after a two under par third round.

Countrymen Hunter Mahan and Steve Stricker along with South African Charl Schwartzel in a three way tie for second at even par.

Rory McIlroy and Tiger Woods, the world's top two ranked golfers, are at eight and nine over respectively.

The sole New Zealander to make the cut, Steven Alker, shot a third round five over par to be 13 over for the tournament and tied for 55th place.
