Warriors upset Roosters for fourth straight win

5:53 am on 17 June 2013

The Warriors coach Matthew Elliott hailed his side's 23-12 victory over the Sydney Roosters last night as one of the most courageous in his time in rugby league.

It's a big statement from Elliot who's been coaching top-level league for 16 years, but understandable in the context of of the Warriors' record 56-point loss to Penrith only last month.

Halfback Shaun Johnson was back to his best with an inspirational performance in Sydney. Despite playing with a groin injury, Johnson was able to save a runaway try by Michael Jennings, chasing down the Roosters speedster in the first half.

And Glen Fisiahi saved what appeared to be another certain try when he managed to spectacularly dislodge the ball from Shaun Kenny-Dowall's grasp when the New Zealand international was over the goalline and about to level the scores.

It was a frustrating loss for the Roosters, who wasted another top-shelf performance from star back-rower Sonny Bill Williams who had sparked a twoi tries in the final five minutes of the first half to give the home side a two-point lead at the break.

The Warriors fourth straight win has lifted them to 11th place.
