The Canterbury shot-putter Tom Walsh has become the second New Zealand male to better 20 metres.

Walsh finished second at a meeting in Austria with a distance of 20.07 metres.

That is just three centimetres short of the B standard for the world athletic championships in Moscow in August.

Jacko Gill leads the national all time list with 20.38m from Walsh and Les Mills with 19.80m.
