The English golfer Justin Rose thanked the Masters champion Adam Scott for an extra dose of belief following his win at the US Open yesterday, the first Englishman in 43 years to win the event.

Rose says he took a lot of encouragement from Adam Scott's win at the Masters in April, and he received a fantastic text from the Queenslander after his win at Augusta saying "your time is coming soon".

Rose is now ranked number three in the world, one place ahead of Scott.

Phil Mickelson, trying to make his US Open breakthrough win on his 43rd birthday admitted to a heartbreaking day after he'd dropped three shots in the last six holes to finished two shots back in a tie for third with the 25 year old Australian Jason Day.
