12:16 pm on 18 June 2013

The South Sydney forward George Burgess has been stood down by his top-of-the-table National Rugby League club after being charged with two counts of wilful damage following an incident in Cairns early yesterday.

South Sydney say the Englishman has admitted guilt and is cooperating with police over the incident.

The club stood Burgess down pending further investigation and is working with the NRL's Integrity Unit to decide what penalty it should impose on him.

The incident happened hours after South Sydney's match against Gold Coast in Cairns on Sunday.

Queensland police say they charged a 21-year-old man with ramming a sign through the window of a car.
