Alker does himself proud at US Open

The New Zealand golfer Steven Alker will be reflecting on a proud week having tied for 45th yesterday at the US Open championship at Merion in Philadelphia.

Having earned less than 13-thousand dollars from just 5 events on this year's Web.com tour in the States, Alker made the US Open via a pre-qualifying tournament in California.

His final and best round of 72 gave him a share of 45th place alongside Sergio Garcia and the Masters champion Adam Scott, and a cheque for 36-thousand dollars.
