The New Zealand swimmer Matthew Stanley has belatedly been awarded the bronze medal from last year's World Short Course Championships, after the orginal third place finisher tested positive for a banned substance.
The Danish swimmer, Mads Glaesner, tested positive for to the stimulant Levmetamfetamine during the competition in Istanbul, where he finished third in the 400 metres freestyle and won the 1500 freestyle.
Swimming's world governing body FINA has suspended Glaesner for three months and he's been disqualified from both races.
Glaesner claims he tested positive because he used an American version of a nasal inhaler which contained the banned substance, which the Danish brand didn't.
New Zealand's medal tally from the championship is now three, to go with the gold and bronze won by Lauren Boyle, making it the joint best performance along with the three medals won at the 1995 event.
