The New Zealand women's hockey team has been beaten 5-2 by hosts the Netherlands in their semi-final at the World League tournament in Rotterdam.

The Dutch raced to a 3-0 lead inside 16 minutes, however the Black Sticks did gain some parity in the rest of the match with Petrea Webster and Katie Glynn scoring their goals.

The Netherlands will play Germany in the final, while New Zealand will meet South Korea for third.

The top three teams from this tournament automatically qualify for next year's World Cup.
