The Wellington golfer Mark Brown is likely to be the only New Zealander to make the field for next month's British Open championship, starting in just over three weeks at Muirfield in Scotland.

Brown earned his place early this year by winning the Australasian qualifying tournament with a sizzling second round of 62 at Kingston Heath in Melbourne.

Michael Campbell has just played in the two-round final European qualifier at Sunningdale in England, finishing four shots short of the qualifying score.

The last 12 places will be filled from Local Qualifying tournaments on four Scottish courses on July the 2nd, and golf's Original Open Championship starts on the 18th of July.
