Lorenzo crashes, will miss Dutch MotoGP

The reigning world motorcycle champion Jorge Lorenzo will miss this weekend's Dutch MotoGP at Assen after fracturing his left collarbone in a 200 km/h crash during a wet practice session.

The in-form Yamaha rider, on a hat-trick after wins in Spain and Italy, had posted the fastest time in first practice.

But in the second session, with standing water making life difficult on the circuit, he lost control, was flung over his handlebars, landing heavily on his left shoulder.

Lorenzo will be furious at his misfortune, having arrived in Assen seeking his third consecutive win after cutting Dani Pedrosa's world championship lead to just seven points.
