Team New Zealand is to protest the decision by the America's Cup race director to make proposed changes to the AC 72 class requiring additional weight of the yachts.
Team New Zealand says the regatta director has exceeded his jurisdiction and that proposed changes this close to the start of racing requires the unanimous consent of all eligible competitors.
The prosposed changes are a part of safety recommendations issued following last month's capsizing of Artemis Racing and the death of a crew member.
Team New Zealand says it supports all other safety recommendations.
Any competitor who resorts to a court in an issue where the jury has jurisdiction immediately ceases to be eligible to compete.
Racing is due to start in just over one week.
