Lawson not happy with the state of the greens

5:56 am on 2 January 2009

9-time national lawn bowls champion Gary Lawson believes there will be somewhat of the luck of the draw in determining the outcome of the national championships which start in Auckland today.

Lawson is just one title away from joining Nick Unkovich as the most succesful bowler in the history of the game in New Zealand... however he knows its going to be very difficult.

Lawson says once again the competition is very good, however he also believes the state of some of the greens around Auckland won't help.

He says there are too many clubs in the country with not enough members and the state of the greens is not very good because of the lack of money being put into them.

Lawson, a 2-time world champion, will be defending his pairs title, but it won't be with Andrew Curtain, instead he's teaming up with Eastbourne club-mate Justin Woodwin.
