The West Australian cricket coach Tom Moody has blasted the national selectors, infuriated by the non-selection of WA's Marcus North while also questioning the decision to stick with out-of-form opener Matthew Hayden.

Moody is bewildered Victorian all-rounder Andrew McDonald got the nod ahead of North to replace injured Andrew Symonds for the third test against South Africa whcih starts tomorrow in Sydney.

North has scored 485 runs at an average of 44 in this season's Sheffield Shield and has also taken eight wickets at 34 with his part-time off-spin.

Moody says North is now a heavy scorer while his off-spin is something you'd think Australia would need in Sydney -- particularly as the game progresses.

Moody says it was also time for Hayden to make way for fresh talent because he's had a lengthy period of time to recapture his form.
