Youngsters blossomed as qualifiers were found for the women's post section singles at the National Lawn Bowls Championships in Auckland.
A group of teenagers, including 17-year-out Amy Brenton from Nelson, Kirsten Griffin of Victoria and the Boyd sisters of Taradale, Mandy and Angela, who each shared three wins apiece at the Pakuranga greens.
Also in her early twenties, new national squad member Genevieve Baildon, showed that she justified her recent elevation in the game by easily qualifying in the singles and is now accepted as one of the best all round female players in the country.
The big names in one of the most fiercely contested men's pairs field assembled in years, Gary Lawson and Justin Goodwin (Eastbourne), Peter Bellis and Shane Sincock (Cabramatta), Richard Girvan and Ali Forsyth (Okahu Bay), and Ryan Bester and Rowan Brassey (Cabramatta) all progressed towards qualification without not many hassles but two of the country's best young male bowlers, Shannon McIlroy (Stoke) and Andrew Kelly (Elmwood) both suffered minor setbacks with one unexpected loss apiece.
