While the Dakar Rally may have moved to another continent this year, the notoriously tough event is still proving to be dangerous for those driving.
The British driver Paul Green and his navigator Matthew Harrison remain in a serious condition following an accident during Saturday's first stage which started in Buenos Aires.
A spokesperson for the hospital, which is in the provincial city of Santa Rosa, says Green is suffering from a blow to the thorax and spine, and that he is on an artificial breathing apparatus
Harrison's condition is said not to have changed since he was admitted.
The Dakar rally was cancelled last year because of fears of terrorism in Mauritania.
This year it is being held in Argentina and Chile.
