Erakovic says injuries didn't help

6:25 pm on 7 January 2009

The New Zealand number one Marina Erakovic says a couple of minor injuries and hot windy conditions contributed to her second round exit from the ASB tennis Classic in Auckland.

She lost in straight sets to the top seed and world number four Elena Dementieva who took the first set 6-2 .

Erakovic was battling to stay in the match at 4-3 in the second when she required two medical time outs.

She says an abdominal strain was the main problem but she also had problems with her neck after waking this morning to find she couldn't turn it to the left, which affected her serve

However she says Dementieva handled the hot, windy conditions well.

The Russian will play fifth seed Shahar Peer in the quarter-finals tomorrow.

The second seed Caroline Wozniacki, last year's runnerup Aravane Rezai of France, Russia's Elena Vesnina and Britain's Anne Keothavong are through, too.

But the sixth seventh and eight seeds Nicole Vaidisova, Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova and Carla Suarez Navarro are out.
