South Africa hang on against the Australians

7:11 pm on 7 January 2009

South Africa is doing all it can to hang on for a draw in the third and final test against Australia in Sydney.

A short time ago, the Proteas were 8 for 245 late in the final session on the fifth day.

There is specualtion Captain Graeme Smith, who has not batted due to a fractured left hand, may bat at the fall of the next wicket to help the South Africans get a draw.

A win for the Australians would let them walk away with some pride, after having lost the first to tests to the visitors.
