Dakar claims a life in Argentina

7:00 am on 8 January 2009

The Dakar Rally, re-located to Argentina, has retained its deadly reputation despite a change of continent with the body of a 49-year-old French motorcycle rider being found.

The organisers say Pascal Terry was found dead some 15 metres from his bike in the middle of thick bushes.

The rider from Normandy had been missing since Sunday's second stage and his body was recovered about 100 metres off the road and 190 kilometres south of where he had started in Santa Rosa.

Local police were opening an investigation into the fatality.
