The Israeli tennis player Shahar Peer ignored protests over her country's military action in the Gaza Strip but still went down in straight sets to top seed Elena Dementieva at the ASB Classic quarter finals in Auckland.

The world number 39 was given extra security for her second round match after a local protest group urged her to withdraw from the tournament.
