The Northern Knights have closed the gap between them and the table topping Central Stags in domestic cricket's State Shield.
The Knights moved to 17 points yesterday following a three wicket win over the Otago Volts, while the Stags lost to the Wellington Firebirds by six wickets to remain on 18 points.
A Matthew Bell century propelled the Firebirds to the victory.
In other action, the Auckland Aces beat the Canterbury Wizards by 3 wickets in Christchurch.
