The coach of the New Zealand cricket side says he's not giving up on Jesse Ryder.

The talented opening batsman was dropped for the weekend's rained off fourth one day international against the West Indies because of a late night of drinking.

It's the second alcohol-related indiscretion committed by Ryder since his elevation to national side.

But coach Andy Moles is staying positive about Ryder's future, saying he will get all the help he needs.

He says Ryder has assured him his off the field issues are now a thing of the past.
