The world number five golfer, Fiji's Vijay Singh, has finished tied for 27th place at the US PGA Tour season-opening Mercedez Benz championship in Hawaii.

A final round three under 70 left Singh at five under, 19 shots behind winner Australian Geoff Ogilvy who won by six shots.

Six ahead of the field overnight at the Kapalua Resort, Ogilvy had his lead briefly cut to one after he bogeyed four of the first eight holes before pulling away from the chasing pack.

Ogilvy clinched his fifth PGA Tour title finishing well ahead of Americans Davis Love III and Anthony Kim.

Singh will now have knee surgery and miss the next four Tour events.
