Sydney FC star attacked after win over Phoenix

Sydney FC are searching for two of their own fans who attacked midfielder Robbie Middleby in the Sydney Football Stadium car park after Sunday's A-League win over the Wellington Phoenix.

Middleby was assaulted by two fans wearing Sydney FC scarves around their heads and faces after the 1-0 win, in an attack reportedly motivated by his move to North Queensland Fury next season.

The 33-year-old said only the arrival of his wife Melissa at the scene prevented him from being badly hurt.

The two men are now facing a life ban from A-League matches and possible legal action if caught.
