English Rugby Premiership clubs have revealed plans to extend their fixture list and freeze their salary cap in order to counter the global economic crisis.

Premier Rugby, the body set up to represent the 12 Premier League clubs, told British media in order to maintain the salary cap at the current level, avoid salary cuts and maintain jobs, Premiership fixtures must be increased.

Despite the credit crunch attendances for Premiership rugby continue to be strong with a record crowd of 50,000 turning out to see Harlequins draw with Leicester in December.
