The Italian Olympic Committee says Matteo Priamo should face a four-year ban for his involvement in team mate Emanuele Sella's doping case.
CONI has not specified the reasons but a tribunal will now decide if Priamo is guilty.
Sella was banned for a year in December after confessing to using a new version of the blood-booster EPO.
