IRB to restructure rugby in West Asia

6:31 am on 18 January 2009

The International Rugby Board has announced plans to restructure rugby in West Asia.

A number of new unions in the area will be created, with the first of these expected to be the United Arab Emirates.

In order to facilitate the expansion the existing combined multi-state Union, the Arabian Gulf Rugby Football Union will cease to exist by the end of 2010.

The IRB Chairman Bernard Lapasset says West Asia has great potential for growth.

He says all agree the common goal is the development of rugby and access to the game for everyone.
