American challenger Shane Mosley claimed the WBA welterweight title with a stunning ninth round stoppage of Mexican Antonio Margarito in Los Angeles.
The 37-year-old veteran softened up his opponent with a series of blistering combinations in the eighth round before ending the fight with a flurry in the ninth.
Mosley's slick hand and foot speed made the difference as he improved his career record to 46-5 with 39 knockouts.
Margarito had claimed the title in Les Vegas last July by stopping Miguel Cotto of Puerto Rico.
