Djokovic battles into fourth round in Melbourne

6:18 pm on 23 January 2009

The third seed and defending men's champ Novak Djokovic didn't have it all his own way in his third round encounter against a little known American at the Australian Tennis Open.

While the Serbian prevailed 6-2 4-6 6-3 7-6 over Amer Dilic, he looked far from his best.

Djokovic will be joined in the fourth round by Argentinian 8th seed Jaun Martin Del Potro and Croatian 19th seed Marin Cilic, who have also had wins today.

In the women's section, the third seed Dinara Safina, 7th seed Vera Zvonareva and 10th seed Nadia Petrova have all posted victories this afternoon to reach the fourth round.

The feature match this evening on the Rod Laver Arena is between the world number two Roger Federrer of Switzerland and 26th seed Marat Safin of Russia.
