Big hitting from Albie Morkel has again slammed the Australian bowlers late in the game to steer South Africa to victory in the third one day cricket international played in Sydney.

Morkel smashed 40 off just 22 balls as South Africa passed Australia's 269 with three wickets in hand and 21 balls to spare.

Earlier Herschelle Gibbs with with 64 off 52 balls and Jaques Kallis with 60 off 72 balls set up the win.

Australia had got off to a flying start with opener David Warner scoring 69 off 60 balls as he and Shaun Marsh put on an opening stand of 114 off 18 overs and five balls.

But then Proteas skipper Johan Botha, with a miserly 10 over spell for just 32 runs and three wickets, dragged his side back into the contest as Australia lost their last nine wickets for 125.

South Africa now lead the five game series 2-1.
