The Wellington Phoenix football club believe its bid to make the A-League playoffs next season will be boosted by a new signing.
The Phoenix hopes of making the final four this season were extinguished after Friday night's 2-0 loss to the Melbourne Victory.
But the club has announced it has signed Brazilian midfielder Diego for the 2009-2010 campaign.
The 29-year-old has been playing at Adelaide United.
Phoenix chief executive Tony Pignata says Diego is the type of player the Wellington side have been missing.
