Dinara Safina is through to the semi-finals at the Australian Tennis Open after beating the brave local hero Jelena Dokic 6-4 4-6 6-4.
Dokic's emotionally-charged run at Melbourne Park had captured the imagination of her adopted homeland but her luck finally ran out against the in-form Safina.
Dokic, ranked 187th in the world, beat three seeded players just to get to the quarter-finals, and she's upbeat about her future after enjoying a dream run at her first grand slam event in three years.
In the semi-finals Safina will face compatriot Vera Zvonareva, ensuring there will be at least one Russian woman in the final for the third year running.
