Former sprinters perfect for Bobsledding

The New Zealand Bobsleigh squad will have plenty of speed behind it at the World Champs in New York next month thanks to three former track athletes and a rugby player.

Former Olympian Chris Donaldson, fellow sprinters Tom Davie and Sam Higgie and ex-rugby player Willie Trew have been named as pushers with Alan Henderson named as driver of the team.

The New Zealand Winter Sports performance director Ashley Light says the athletes were exactly what the New Zealand team were looking for.

He says the faster the push start is at the top of the run, the faster the bobsled comes in at the bottom.

He says they knew they needed to find a world class push and they think they've done that.
