There'll be a new world number one in women's tennis after the Australian Open final between Serena Williams and Dinara Safina.

Whoever wins on Saturday will take over from Jelena Jankovic, who was beaten in the fourth round in Melbourne.

Williams and Safina both beat Russian opponents in straight sets in Thursday's semi-finals, though Williams had a tougher match against the Olympic and Auckland Classic champion Elena Dementieva than the 6-3 6-4 scorelines suggests.

The second seed had to raise her game to come from 3-0 down in the second set and she says while she was calm and focused she knew she had to do some things different, as Dementieva had beaten her in recent outings.
