Ponting dismisses suggestions SA now have the edge

The Australian cricket captain Ricky Ponting has scoffed at suggestions the Proteas 4-1 one-day series victory has given them a psychological edge heading into next month's return Test series in South Africa.

Australia, who will enter the three match test series without key pacemen Brett Lee and Stuart Clark, surrendered their mantle as the No.1 one-day side following their 39-run defeat to South Africa in Perth on Friday night.

But Ponting is confident his charges can turn their fortunes around when they travel to South Africa following a five-game series against New Zealand.

He says he's never been a big believer in when you play a one-day series and you go back to a Test match series if there's any advantage to be gained there.

Ponting says this is ecause you'll have a vast changeover of players from the two teams and it's a different form of the game.
