Team NZ to face China on day four of LVPS

7:14 pm on 2 February 2009

The Louis Vuitton sailing regatta goes into day four in Auckland today with Team New Zealand and Alinghi leading their respective pools.

Team New Zealand is tied with Damiani Italia, and Alinghi with Britain's Team Origin with two days remaining in the first round.

And while uncertainty remains over the future of the America's Cup due to an ongoing courtroom battle - the cup teams have agreed on the design of a larger faster boat for the next event.

Team New Zealand technical director Nick Holroyd says the boats will be slightly longer than the old version Five designs and are expected to be much faster downwind.

The first race today will see Team New Zealand up against China Team.

Meanwhile, Britain's fledgling America's Cup challenger Team Origin is not getting carried away after its day three victory over the regining cup holder Alinghi.

The Alinghi crew jumped the start and didn't manage to get ahead of the British crew - with both sailing borrowed boats.

Team Origin's Mike Sanderson agreed that by the team not yet having a boat of its own - they might be adapting more quickly to the shared boats, than other teams which have spent a lot of time sailing boats of their own design.
